If cyclists are the life blood of the Three Counties Cycle Ride (3CCR) then volunteers are its beating heart. With your support we can turn the 3CCR idea into a fun event where you can make a difference to charities that are important to you. If you can help us, in return we will send a donation to your chosen charity.
We are always looking for volunteers. Sometimes this is for a few hours per year or can be a few hours per month especially when involved with the Bracknell Charity Cycle Ride (BCCR) committee.
The following are brief descriptions of the three areas where we constantly need help. If you would like to be a volunteer, marshal or committee member then please complete the simple form below and we will contact you. We would love to hear from you. Without your help, sadly, we would not be able to run this popular event.

Registrations

When cyclists arrive they will come to a registration desk. The Meet and Greet team is usually split into four sections dealing with different alphabetical lists. To register the rider their arrival is ticked off on a spreadsheet and they are provided with a registration marker to go on their cycle.
Another Meet and Greet team member deals with cyclists that have not pre registered and need to pay on the day. They will ask the cyclist to read the entry conditions of the ride. They will provide the cyclist with a registration marker to go on their cycle and ask them to sign against their registration number to confirm that they have agreed to the entry conditions. The registration team member will then collect either cash or credit/debit card payment using one of our tap and go payment machines.
When cyclists return, a registration team member will check off the rider’s name and provide them with their certificate, medal, bottle of water and Mars bar.
Registrations start at 07:30 and are cleared away by 16:30. The registration team is organised in three separate shifts – early, mid event, event close.
The team has a maximum size of 10 people. Five people are needed for the first shift which runs from 07:30 to 10:00. The two other shifts deal with returning riders. Currently the registration team is full but we would be happy to put you on our reserves list.

Marshals

This is our largest number of volunteers. Twenty eight people are needed on the three routes we offer in the event.
We will provide directions to each marshal location. The marshal will need to provide their own adequate protection from rain or sun and any refreshments, chairs etc. They will need to be mindful of traffic conditions and not put themselves at risk from an accident (we do not expect marshals to venture onto the road).
We expect marshals to have a fully charged working mobile phone and to know how to contact the control phone to report cyclist’s accidents or mechanical failures.
At some marshalling locations marshals may have to vocalise where routes change (e.g. 15 mile ride turn right, 34 and 52 straight on).
The earliest time we will ask a marshal to start is 08:00. The latest finish time will be 16:30. These times greatly depend on the marshalling location. If it is near the start then it will be early. Some locations will require marshalling for two hours and others up to six hours.

Committee Member

Figure 1 shows the structure of the committee. As you can see there are ten positions. We would like to have one individuals for each of the ten positions, however, members often double up on roles depending on their own set of skills. Event Task Managers have an overall responsibility for a set of tasks and are normally supported by other people who also assist or undertake individual tasks. For example the Public Relations Task Manager has several people who support them. These other people may be involved in social media, press releases, distribution of flyers and posters, displaying banners etc. They report their progress to the Task Manager who in turn reports this to the Project Manager who records the progress of the task.
Committee meetings begin in September with the Annual General Meeting (AGM) where individuals are voted into their posts. After the AGM, once a month for around two hours, a committee meeting will take place to discuss issues and confirm progress on tasks. These meetings will continue until July.
On the 1st of February the website opens and then the majority of work for the event begins.
As a broad estimate of time you should be able to give five hours of your time per month, particularly from February to June.
